September 5, 2017
To our friends, family and neighbors –
Like you, we have watched events unfold in our country over the last several months that leave us scared, disappointed, shocked and angry. We have seen an element of this country that is filled with hate, disrespect, and racist anger. And, like many of you, we seek a way to constructively “do something about it,” other than simply voice our disgust and wring our hands in angst.
We believe that there is a proven way to deal with injustice, hatred, anti-semitism and racism – Kingian Nonviolence. Following the precepts of Dr. Martin Luther King, Gandhi, and many other practitioners of nonviolent protest for social change, Kingian Nonviolence gives us a path to participate in direct action in a nonviolent and productive way.
We are proud supporters of the Connecticut Center for Nonviolence, where Jane serves as Chair of the Board. We are both certified Level 1 trainers in Kingian Nonviolence Conflict Reconciliation and believe passionately in its potential impact to effect social change.
We also believe that NOW is the time to dramatically increase the impact and scope of this work. We cannot afford to wait any longer. Recent events indicate there is a heightened risk of a small segment of society resorting to violence. History has proven, many times, that when coalitions cross racial boundaries and work together for peace, civil rights and social justice, we all succeed and bring out the best in each other.
In that spirit, we have decided to make a significant financial investment in this work, and we ask you to join us. On Saturday, September 16, from 4-6 pm, we will be hosting a conversational information session, cocktail party and fundraiser. It will be an opportunity to learn more about Kingian Nonviolence and the great work of the Connecticut Center for Nonviolence. We pledge to match, dollar for dollar, every contribution to the Center made that evening. Your contribution that night, whatever the amount, will immediately double in impact – even if you are unable to attend in person.
Please join us. Don’t sit home in despair or and scream at the TV. Come and do something powerful, constructive and immensely meaningful. Be part of something great. Bring your ideas, your suggestions. Consider becoming a trainer, or volunteer at the Center. We have so much to share with you!
Thank you for considering joining us. We look forward to seeing you.
Can’t make it to the event? Please consider donating now. We are truly grateful for anything that you can give. No amount is too large or too small. With your generous tax-deductible donations we will conduct our outstanding trainings and community events. Your contributions go directly to the goal of building a nonviolence community where people of all ages, across all lines of difference are valued, respected and encouraged to reach their highest potential.
